. As you know I am a tennis club member. I go there regularly but my best friend doesn’t want to do any sport.

It’s nice to hear from you, and I apologize I couldn’t write you back earlier.

I’m sure that people should do sports to keep fit. If I don’t practice any sport I feel bad and depressed. This year I started to attend yoga classes regularly and I like it a lot. The problem is that the majority of time I’m not moving: with all those classes and tasks, internet and social webs people are not physically active at all. In my PE classes at school we play different sport games, such as volleyball and football. We also do running, and many kinds of physical exercises.

In countries with hot climate, the most popular are water sports such as swimming, boating, rowing and yachting. Also in town and in the countryside People enjoy roller-skating and cycling, which are not also sports but also A good leisure activity.

ПРИМЕР
To my mind, sport plays an important part of my life (ваше мнение). I believe that it helps me in different ways. First of all, sport builds character. In other words, it teaches to win and to lose and so makes men out of boys. Besides, it is a good way to meet people, even from other countries as sportsmen often take part in world competitions. Finally, it makes you strong, fast and patient because regular trainings develop not only your body but also your mind.

2. Arguments against Sport:

Also Derby is known all over the world for the extremely popular annual horse race. Besides, Englishmen like all kinds of racing: horse-racing, motor-car racing, boat-racing, dog-racing, etc.
Most people in England don’t go in for many winter sports on the reason that there is hardly any snow in winter. So for skiing the English people go to Scotland or spend their holidays on the continent.
Now the most popular sport in England is simply walking. Whole families spend their time walking especially in the most attractive and least populated regions of England.
Fishing and hunting are very wide-spread in Great Britain.

3. What sports are popular in America?
Such sports as rugby, soccer, hockey, weightlifting, tennis, towing, golf, basketball, basebale, volleyball, shooting, figure-skating, swimming and others are very popular there. The large choice of sports in America can be explained by the variety and size of the country, its different climates and people’s love of competitions of any type.

4. What sports are popular in Russia?
In Russia we have winter and summer sports. The most popular winter sports in Russia are football and hockey, skating and skiing. In summer people play tennis and basketball, go swimming, cycling or roller-skating.
Fishing and hunting are wide-spread in our country as in Great Britain.

5. Do you think that professional sport is dangerous? Why?
Well, sportsmen get injured very often. Besides, intensive training can be bad for their health.

6. Do you do something to keep fit?
As for me, I like sport. Among all sports I prefer football. It is a good way to relax and keep fit.
Two years ago I did wrestling. I was considered a promising one. I took part in different competitions, won medals. But I broke my arm and had to give up.

7. Are you for and against sport?
Answer the question using the arguments above.

8. What do you think about extreme sports like rock climbing or white-water rafting?
Of course, there is always a possibility of injury, but if you don’t go to extremes, it’s rather safe.
As for me, I am not a risk taker and I never take things to the edge. But I can understand people who are addicted to risky sports.

9. What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking part in sport and watching it on TV?
Answer the question using the arguments above.

10. Do you feel unhappy when you lose?
People don’t like to lose. When they lose, they feel uneasy and unhappy. That’s why many people stop going in for sports when their results grow worse.
