Nowadays every person understands that our world has changed very much in comparison with the last years. But the main thing is not that humanity has undergone scientific and technical revolution, but the change of the inner world of people. Especially it concerns young people.
Youth is the part of society who saves and follows the traditions of preceding generations. They possess such powerful force that is able to invert this world heels over head. Sure, this force must be directed at peaceful aims and be embodiment only of true values. However, modern youth do not keep their culture in such way. Thus, the new age is the newyoung people.
In my opinion, there are some basis factors influencing on it. One of them is our society. It influences the formation of the teenagers’ true values more than their families do. A child grows in a family where he gets education and there is his primary socialization. But he or she has to make contacts with other people and their influence is not far always positive. Besides, there are different youth subcultures. Not all their values are true values. Many of them have the aim to oppose public foundations. Thus they damage teenagers’ minds and can incite them against the whole world.
Another factor influencing young people is mass media. There are a lot of violent programmes and articles on TV and in printed press. Negative characters become the ideal heroes for children who try to imitate their behavior in real life. Teenagers become more nervous and aggressive, their psyche is seriously damaged and very often some of them commit crimes. So I considerthat crime is one of the main problems of modern youth.
It is known that children and teenagers crime is growing. Practically all the criminals are young people .It is caused by social inequality, poverty, availability of alcohol and drugs. As the aim of all public debates is getting material welfare, young people try to get it at any price without making efforts. They steal, violate and kill other people. In these cases the number of criminals among teenagers increases and that is natural and inevitable.
Alcohol and drugs are also among the most actual problems nowadays. Children get their first experience in alcohol or drug use while studying at school. They do not understand how dangerous it is, how harmful it is for their health. Children see beautiful life with cigarettes and drugs in films and try to behave like their heroes. They become addicted to these things and degraded later.
However, I think not all the youth are such bad people without any moral standards and behavior who doesn’t think about their future. The most of them have true values, they are ready to study and work hard to enjoy the life. But young people cannot do it without the help of the adults. They need their strong support and advices. Therefore the adults should lead the youth on to the right way of life, teach them to overcome difficulties and always be close to them.
В современное время каждый человек осознает, что мир очень сильно изменился по сравнению с прошлыми годами. И главное не то, что человечество претерпело научно-техническую революцию, а то, как изменился внутренний мир людей. Особенно это касается молодежи.
Молодежь – часть общества, которая сохраняет и следует традициям предшествующих поколений. Она обладает такой мощной силой, что способна перевернуть этот мир с ног на голову. Безусловно, эта мощь должна быть направлена на мирные цели и воплощать только истинные ценности. Однако современная молодежь не сохраняет культуру подобным образом. Новый век, таким образом, новая молодежь.
По моему мнению, существует несколько основных факторов , влияющих на это. Один из них – наше общество. Оно больше, чем семья, влияет на формирование истинных ценностей у подростков. Ребенок растет в семье, где получает воспитание и где происходит его первичная социализация. Но он или она должны общаться и с другими людьми, и их влияние далеко не всегда положительное. Кроме того, существует различные молодежные субкультуры. Не все их ценности являются правильными ценностями. Цель многих из них – противостояние общественным устоям. Таким образом, они вредят разумам подростков и могут настроить их против всего мира.
Другим фактором, влияющим на молодежь, являются средства массовой информации. На телевидении и в газетах, журналах содержится множество программ и статей насильственного характера. Отрицательные персонажи становятся идеальными героями для детей, которые пытаютсяповторять их поведение в реальной жизни. Подростки становятся более нервными и агрессивными, их психика серьезно нарушается, и очень часто некоторые из них совершают преступления. Поэтому, я считаю, что преступность – одна из основных проблем современной молодежи.
Известно, что детская и подростковая преступность растет. Практически все преступники – это молодые люди. Это вызвано социальным неравенством, бедностью, доступностью алкоголя и наркотиков. Так как цель общественной идеологии заключается в достижении материального блага, то молодые люди пытаются получить это любой ценной, не прикладывая усилий. Они крадут, насилуют, убивают других людей. В этих условиях количество преступников среди молодежи увеличивается, и это явление естественное и неизбежное.
Алкоголь и наркотики также находятся среди самых актуальных проблем на сегодня. Дети впервые пробуют алкоголь и наркотики, еще учась в школе. Они не понимают насколько опасно это, насколько вредно это для их здоровья. Дети видят в фильмах красивую жизнь посредством сигарет и наркотиков и ведут себя так же, как их герои. Позже они становятся зависимыми от этих вещей и деградируют.
Однако, я думаю, что не вся молодежь – такие плохие люди, у которых отсутствуют моральные качества и достойное поведение, которые не думают о своем будущем. Многие из них обладают истинными ценностями, они готовы усиленно учиться и работать, чтобы получать наслаждение от жизни. Но без помощи старшего поколения молодые люди не смогут этого сделать. Им нужны их крепкая поддержка и советы. Поэтому взрослым необходимо вести молодежь по правильной дороге жизни, учить преодолевать трудности и всегда быть рядом.

Youth is a period of life which is of utmost importance in the life of man. First, man’s entire life is rooted in his early years. The morals and beliefs, range of interests, education, health and habits are all laid in childhood and youth, the personality is shaped. Second, youth is a time when a person is trying to find his place in the world. This period is usually associated with problems: young people ‘struggle’ to fit themselves into society. Difficult decisions and adjustments face young people in today’s society. There are several problems the young generation face. They are the eternal problems of choosing a career and getting education, the problem of independence and money, the problem of unemployment of young people, the generation gap. Young people have many problems of emotional and personal character which may look silly and unimportant in the eyes of grown-ups but appear to be extremely important to the young. They are the problems of friendship and loneliness, as well as the problem of the first love.
Probably the most vital problem is choosing a career, which is really difficult. One thing that makes it so difficult is the responsibility you have to take on — it is widely known that your future life depends on the choice made early in life when your personal experience is not so great. Sometimes you may even be not quite certain about the field of knowledge you are interested in. The second reason is that to make this choice you have to get some idea of the labour market and job opportunities. Third, there are parents who usually have their own idea of your future career and, in many cases, try to make their child choose the career path they prefer.
Perhaps one of the most fundamental problems faced by young people today is unemployment. Young people today have certain needs and aspirations. Because of the universal downturn in the economy combined with technology when particular jobs and skills are made obsolete, many youths today are experiencing problems in obtaining jobs. Unemployment means financial worries, frustration and discouragement. To solve the problem of unemployment, young people should strive for higher education. Then they would be qualified for skilled labour required by industrialized society.
Another problem facing young people today is the tension which exists between parents and children, or the ‘generation gap’. In their eagerness to achieve adult status and live their own life, young people may resent any restrictions. They believe that their parents are overanxious and overprotective, which usually creates tension. The ‘generation gap’ problem is really inevitable. Firstly, every generation is unique in its experience, and young people have always rejected or at least questioned the values of their parents. They have always wanted to learn from their own experience, not from their parents’ standards. Secondly, every younger generation tends to be more educated and better-informed than the previous one; they grow more quickly and enjoy freedom more. Thirdly, parents tend to aggravate the situation: they try to impose their ideas upon their children. It results in young people’s revolt against adult authority. Parents should exercise control over young people, and try to overcome the differences but with sympathy and understanding.
An area which poses a problem for young people and their parents is love and dating. Some parents today are prepared to give their children some freedom, others are overprotective, restricting their children from going out with the opposite sex. Thus, many young people today can’t get the valuable experience of adjusting to other people.
Many youths may not be mature enough to cope with such problems, that is why they go in the direction of crime, drugs, vandalism, drinking etc. Often young people are forced either consciously or unconsciously to become involved in those antisocial activities by people of their own age group. Moreover, they compensate for their feelings by revolting against society and adult authority.
The second one is the problem of friendship. Youth is the time when a person is vulnerable to opinions of different people, especially to the opinions of his peer group. Another problem is problem of love and dating. Some parents are democratic in this respect, and allow their children considerable freedom in their relations with the opposite sex. Others are overprotective and forbid their teenage children to go out with people they like, which, in my opinion, can result in many psychological problems as they prevent their children from getting an experience of communicating with representatives of the opposite sex, and this can lead to serious family problems later.
Grown-ups should work together with young people to help them solve these problems. We must remember that the young people are the leaders of tomorrow.

For me, the most important and difficult problem is that of friendship. Firstly, in spite of the fact I have some conflicts with my parents, I have always known they love me, and I love them, too, and will always do my best to help them and make them happy. Friends are people whose trust and affection you have to win; friendship is art for me. Secondly, my friends normally are my peers, we have common interests, likes and dislikes, so having friends is of utter importance to me. As to dating and love, I don’t think much about it yet. I think I have to solve the problems which seem most important to me at the moment, that is choosing the career and entering the university I have chosen.

Everybody says your youth is probably the best time of your life, that being young means romance, love, new discoveries and so on. But it is also the most difficult time because you have to make some very important decisions which will influence all your future life.
Things are not easy nowadays even for adults, but for teenagers who have to find their own place in society, it’s very difficult. It is necessary not only to adapt to your society, but also to be confident about your position in five, ten or twenty years time.
For your future it is essential to have a good job. And to get a really good job you have to be well-educated. Every girl or boy leaving secondary school should choose an institution of higher education or, if he or she doesn’t want to study any more, choose a job straight way. In planning your future you have to think about the possibility of finding a job after finishing your education.
But even if you are studying, you need some money of your own. Your parents probably will provide you with home, food and necessary clothes, but you will have your own tastes, and your parents won’t pay for them. To pay for extra clothes, tapes, books, things necessary for your hobbies, you have to work, and in our country it is very difficult for a teenager to find a job without any qualification. You’re lucky if you can do something that others can’t; for example, if you’re good at Maths or English, you can give lessons.
Emotional problems for young people can be far more difficult than financial ones. The typical teenager problem is that «nobody understands me». The parents often continue to treat their teenage children as if they were infant, when they probably consider themselves to be grown up.
Youth is also the time to meet your first love. It is, of course, wonderful, but, as it is widely known that first love often has an unhappy end, this also encreases young people’s problems.
Even friends cannot always stay friends. When young people begin to understand themselves a little bit better, old friends sometimes just grow apart.
So, as you see, it is very difficult to be young nowadays, as, indeed, it always was. But you only can be young once, and some wonderful things can happen only when you’re young. So, it is better to enjoy youth while it lasts.

Вам повезло, если вы можете делать что-то, чего другие не могут, например, если вам хорошо дается математика или английский, вы можете давать уроки.
Эмоциональные проблемы для молодежи могут быть куда сложнее финансовых. Типичная проблема подростка — «никто меня не понимает». Родители обычно видят своих детей малышами, тогда как дети, возможно, считают себя почтя взрослыми.
Юность — время первой любви. Это, конечно же, прекрасно, но хорошо известно, что первая любовь часто кончается несчастливо, и это прибавляет молодым людям проблем.
Даже друзья не всегда остаются друзьями. Когда молодые люди начинают лучше себя понимать, закадычные друзья часто просто расходятся.
Так что, как видите, сегодня быть молодым очень трудно, как, впрочем, и всегда. Но молодость дается лишь однажды, и многие прекрасные вещи могут произойти с тобой только тогда, когда ты молод. Так что лучше наслаждаться молодостью, пока она длится.

What Are the Main Problems the Teens Are Facing Today?

Speaking about challenges in a teen’s life I’d say first that nowadays young people are facing a lot of problems, which primarily were associated with adult life.
How do you feel about a teen sitting on a bench in the park drinking beer and smoking? Unfortunately, this caricature image has got into our life and the question in fact is why.
I think all that smoking, drugs use and violence among youth are the ways that teens take in trying to escape from their problems. It may sound absurdly, but I believe that the most important thing, which leads young people to stress and depression, is relationships. Naturally I mean all kinds of relationships not only those between boys and girls. We live in the society, not in a desert! Everyone wants people to listen to him/her and to do what he/she wants, and sometimes it’s very hard to contact with the people around.
It’s clear that relations may be of various types: between kids and parents or teachers, between mates or beloveds… And they all bring troubles!
I regret to say that there is no understanding in many families. Parents are not interested in their kids’ lives and let them do anything they want. On the one hand, it’s ok as teenagers are mature enough to make their own decisions. But on the other hand, I think there should be some control in the family, because what kids do can sometimes be not just foolish but totally wrong. They start drinking or taking drugs in trying to express their protest, instead ruining their own lives.
In my opinion, the most important thing for teenagers is school. In fact, school is a model of the real life, the place, where kids learn not only how to square numbers or write correctly, but how to communicate with absolutely different people. At school children have to contact with their mates and teachers and this experience is what they have when entering the grown-up world.
Today such things as discrimination or intolerance at schools are not unusual. Some students find no common themes to discuss with their classmates; not everybody is interested, for example, in fashion news or modern gadgets. So they escape to their own world and often become outsiders. An incapability to contact with people around can lead to a lot of problems such as depression or neurosis and even they end up with suicide, which nowadays becomes, so to say, a normal way to die. Suicides among teenagers often happen as a result of their failures in private affairs. Although there are a lot of books, magazines and films dwelling on the subject, parting with a girl- or boyfriend can be a serious trouble in the young age. Besides, most teens are maximalists and see things in black and white… but – who says we must be wise?! To be a teen means to learn how to live, and it’s impossible to make no mistakes on the way.
Last year I wrote a poem about teens’ problems. It characterizes our life clearly.
Youth
Life is the way that we all have to go,
Life is the mixture of sadness and happiness.
You say, all teens are depressed and alone,
But isn’t youth also the time to be careless?
Tears all the nights, feeling lonely and bad,
Problems with teachers, with friends and with relatives.
Our teen’s life is not only for that!
Don’t paint the World into black, don’t be negative!
Try to be open to parents and friends,
Life will be better and life will be easier.
Youth is the time to have fun, to have rest..
All of your problems are not very serious.

Life used to be fun for ‘teenagers’. They used to have money to spend, and free time to spend it in. They used to wear teenage clothes, and meet in teenage coffee bars and discos. Some of them still do. But for many young people, life is harder now. Jobs are difficult to find. There’s not so much money around. Things are more expensive, and it’s hard to find a place to live.
Teachers say that students work harder than they used to. They are less interested in politics, and more interested in passing exams. They know that good exam results may get them better jobs.
Most young people worry more about money than their parents did twenty years ago. They try to spend less and save more. They want to be able to get homes of their own one day.
For some, the answer to unemployment is to leave home and look for work in one of Britain’s big cities. Every day hundreds of young people arrive in London from other parts of Britain, looking for jobs. Some find work, and stay. Others don’t find it, and go home again, or join the many unemployed in London. There used to be one kind of teenage fashion, one style, one top pop group. Then, the girls all wore mini-skirts and everyone danced to the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
But now an eighteen-year-old might be a punk, with green hair and chains round his legs, or a skin head, with short, short hair and right wing politics, or a ‘rasta’, with long uncombed hair and a love for Africa. There’s a lot of different music around too. There’s reggae, the West Indian sound, there’s rock, there’s heavy metal, country and western, and disco. All these kinds of music are played by different groups and listened to by different fans.
When you read the newspapers and watch the news on television, it’s easy to get the idea that British young people are all unemployed, angry and in trouble.
But that’s not true. Three quarters of them do more or less what their parents did. They do their best at school, find some kind of work in the end, and get married in their early twenties. They get on well with their parents, and enjoy family life. They eat fish and chips, watch football on TV, go to the pub, and like reading about pop stars. After all, if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be British, would they?

Раньше для подростков жизнь была весельем. У них всегда были какие-то деньги и свободное время. Они носили подростковые вещи и встречались в кафе и дискоклубах. Некоторые из них такие до сих пор. Но для большинства молодых людей жизнь сейчас намного тяжелее. Трудно найти работу. Денег не так много, вещи более дорогие, трудно найти себе жилье.
Преподаватели говорят, что студенты работают больше, чем раньше. Они менее интересуются политикой и больше обеспокоены сдачей экзаменов. Они понимают, что лучшие результаты экзаменов помогут найти лучшую работу.
Большая часть молодежи сейчас беспокоится о деньгах сильнее, чем их родители 20 лет назад. Они пытаются тратить меньше и больше экономят. Они хотят когда-нибудь иметь свой дом.
Некоторым, чтобы решить проблему безработицы, приходится уехать на работу в один из крупных городов Британии. Каждый день в Лондон приезжают сотни молодых людей из других городов в поисках работы. Часть из них находят работу и остаются. Остальные же возвращаются домой или присоединяются к числу безработных Лондона. Раньше существовал единый стиль подростковой моды, единая самая лучшая поп группа. Девушки носили мини-юбки и все танцевали под музыку Битлз и Роллинг-Стоунз.
Теперь же, подросток может быть зеленоволосым панком с цепями на ногах или скин-хэдом с очень короткой стрижкой и правыми политическими убеждениями, или же растаманом с длинными нечесаными волосами и любовью к Африке. Существует масса различной музыки. Есть регги, западно-индийский «саунд», рок, хэви-метал, кантри и вестерн, диско. Все эти стили музыки исполняются разными группами и их слушают разные поклонники.
Когда читаешь газеты и смотришь телевизор, очень легко может сложиться впечатление, что в Англии вся молодежь без работы, обозленная и имеет неприятности.
Это не так. Три четверти из них более или менее занимаются тем же, чем занимались их родители. Они пытаются хорошо учиться в школе, найти хорошую работу и жениться после 20 лет. Они ладят с родителями и наслаждаются семейной жизнью. Они едят рыбу и чипсы, смотрят футбол по телевизору, ходят в бар и любят читать о поп-звездах. В конце концов, если бы они этим не занимались, они не были бы англичанами, не так ли?

Life used to be fun for ‘teenagers’. They used to have money to spend, and free time to spend it in. They used to wear teenage clothes, and meet in teenage coffee bars and discos. Some of them still do. But for many young people, life is harder now. Jobs are difficult to find. There’s not so much money around. Things are more expensive, and it’s hard to find a place to live.
Teachers say that students work harder than they used to. They are less interested in politics, and more interested in passing exams. They know that good exam results may get them better jobs.
Most young people worry more about money than their parents did twenty years ago. They try to spend less and save more. They want to be able to get homes of their own one day.
For some, the answer to unemployment is to leave home and look for work in one of Britain’s big cities. Every day hundreds of young people arrive in London from other parts of Britain, looking for jobs. Some find work, and stay. Others don’t find it, and go home again, or join the many unemployed in London. There used to be one kind of teenage fashion, one style, one top pop group. Then, the girls all wore mini-skirts and everyone danced to the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
But now an eighteen-year-old might be a punk, with green hair and chains round his legs, or a skin head, with short, short hair and right wing politics, or a ‘rasta’, with long uncombed hair and a love for Africa. There’s a lot of different music around too. There’s reggae, the West Indian sound, there’s rock, there’s heavy metal, country and western, and disco. All these kinds of music are played by different groups and listened to by different fans.
When you read the newspapers and watch the news on television, it’s easy to get the idea that British young people are all unemployed, angry and in trouble.
But that’s not true. Three quarters of them do more or less what their parents did. They do their best at school, find some kind of work in the end, and get married in their early twenties. They get on well with their parents, and enjoy family life. They eat fish and chips, watch football on TV, go to the pub, and like reading about pop stars. After all, if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be British, would they?

Преподаватели говорят, что студенты работают больше, чем раньше. Они менее интересуются политикой и больше обеспокоены сдачей экзаменов. Они понимают, что лучшие результаты экзаменов помогут найти лучшую работу.
Большая часть молодежи сейчас беспокоится о деньгах сильнее, чем их родители 20 лет назад. Они пытаются тратить меньше и больше экономят. Они хотят когда-нибудь иметь свой дом.
Некоторым, чтобы решить проблему безработицы, приходится уехать на работу в один из крупных городов Британии. Каждый день в Лондон приезжают сотни молодых людей из других городов в поисках работы. Часть из них находят работу и остаются. Остальные же возвращаются домой или присоединяются к числу безработных Лондона. Раньше существовал единый стиль подростковой моды, единая самая лучшая поп группа. Девушки носили мини-юбки и все танцевали под музыку Битлз и Роллинг-Стоунз.
Теперь же, подросток может быть зеленоволосым панком с цепями на ногах или скин-хэдом с очень короткой стрижкой и правыми политическими убеждениями, или же растаманом с длинными нечесаными волосами и любовью к Африке. Существует масса различной музыки. Есть регги, западно-индийский «саунд», рок, хэви-метал, кантри и вестерн, диско. Все эти стили музыки исполняются разными группами и их слушают разные поклонники.
Когда читаешь газеты и смотришь телевизор, очень легко может сложиться впечатление, что в Англии вся молодежь без работы, обозленная и имеет неприятности.
Это не так. Три четверти из них более или менее занимаются тем же, чем занимались их родители. Они пытаются хорошо учиться в школе, найти хорошую работу и жениться после 20 лет. Они ладят с родителями и наслаждаются семейной жизнью. Они едят рыбу и чипсы, смотрят футбол по телевизору, ходят в бар и любят читать о поп-звездах. В конце концов, если бы они этим не занимались, они не были бы англичанами, не так ли?

Youth is a beautiful time. The faces of young people, the young souls and young love – everything is beautiful. We can describe all the amazing attractions of this only period in life, which is usually remembered during all lifetime, but many youngsters say that their life is followed by numerous troubles. Really, there is no life without problems, but we can’t make little account of youth problems.
Unfortunately, most of the problems are connected with family relations.
Moms and dads say that teenage rebels just growing up normal. Their parents said it, just as parents say it today.
“Damn kids these days”. This phrase is the fad of the adults of all times.
To my mind, each new generation of kids receives negative reviews because of two entwined social dynamics: surliness and rebellion in youth; fear and loathing by parents, whose youth has passed them by.
It’s called the generation gap, which pits the impertinence of youth against the attitudes of people over 30, who forget what a pain in the butt they were as kids.
If you look at history, youth has always looked bad from the adult perspective. Sometimes it’s because they don’t remember all the stupid, dangerous things they did as kids.
Adults always tend to glorify their own past. It explains the reason why they often look down their noses at the next generations. Basically, what these critical adults are saying is, “why can’t these kids be like us.” It is amazing, but every generation goes through this.
I’m deeply convinced tat if some parents are ready to write off the next generation, they should remember how they behaved as young teenagers and recognize rebellion as a sign of growing up.
But we should admit, there are some dangerous temptations of the youth and only parents can preserve their children from such social evil as alcohol, smoking and even early sex and killing oneself by using drugs.
For example, the former Soviet Union admitted that it had over 200,000 drug addicts. Because of this the government opened several special hospitals for these addicts. There’s a big anti-drugs campaign in the country’s schools too. Usually drugs come from several places including Western Europe and Afghanistan. Also, some addicts use glue or steal medical drugs from hospitals.
This problem is closely connected with gang-violence. As well as gangs of punks, rockers and hippies, there are ultra conservative gangs, too. They want to stop “the dangerous” influence of teenage culture in our country. But actually they follow the ideas of nationalism and even fascism.
One more acute problem for many young people is smoking. Millions of teenagers know it’s bad for them, but they still do it. I think it is rather easy to withstand the influence of those who smoke. We should be simply strong enough to say “no”.
Many people offer their way out. Some of them say that teenagers should not be let to the discos because of the danger of drugs; others say that young people should be given more money and more freedom, because everything that is forbidden astonishes.
But in my opinion, one thing is clear: after decades of silence in the Soviet Union we face a lot of urgent problem, which should be solved as soon as it is possible.
